Sentinel S-40 Access Control Panel

Networked four-door controller · PoE+ · wall-mount

Category
Access control
Model
S-40

The Sentinel S-40 is a four-door access-control panel powered over Ethernet. This guide covers wall mounting, reader and lock wiring, network connection and first power-up. Allow about 45 minutes for a single-panel install.

Caution
Isolate power before wiringDisconnect the PoE feed at the switch before terminating any cable. Locks can hold a charge, so discharge auxiliary supplies before working on the relay terminals.
What you'll need
  • PoE+ switch or midspan (802.3at) with a spare port
  • Cat 6 patch lead and cable to each reader and lock
  • M4 pan-head screws and wall plugs (×4) for the enclosure
  • Torx T10 driver, small flat screwdriver and a cable tester
  • Laptop or phone on the same network for commissioning
Mount the enclosure
  1. Mark the four keyholes from the enclosure back-box at eye level, away from mains cabling.
  2. Fix the back-box to the wall with the supplied M4 screws and plugs.
  3. Land the reader, lock and Ethernet cables through the lower gland plate.
  4. Leave 150 mm of service loop inside the enclosure before terminating.

Pre-power checks
  • Reader and lock polarity confirmed against the wiring label
  • No short between 12 V and 0 V at any terminal
  • Lock free-wheel diode fitted across each DC lock
  • Ethernet drop tests good end-to-end on the cable tester
  • Enclosure earth bonded to the building earth bar
First power-up
  1. 1
Patch PoE IN to the switch
  2. 2
Wait for the status LED to go green
  3. 3
Sign in at the panel IP
  4. 4
Set a password and enrol the doors
Verify the installation
  • Status LED steady green after the panel joins the network
  • Each reader beeps and flashes on a valid test card
  • Each lock releases and re-secures on a granted card
  • Request-to-exit releases the matching door
  • Door-contact state reports correctly in the controller
