Understanding My Products

What My Products is, why products exist separately from documents, and how the two relate.

My Products is your library of products: the real things your documents describe. Each product is a reusable record of the facts you tend to repeat: name, subtitle, model, part numbers, category, description, key features and specifications.

Why products exist separately from documents

A single product often needs several documents: a data sheet, a sell sheet, an installation guide, a certificate. If each document held its own copy of the product's facts, they'd drift apart the moment something changed. Products solve that: the facts live in one place, and documents draw from them.

This keeps information consistent. Update the product's part number once, and every document made from it can pick up the change. See Understanding Source of Truth.

What's on the My Products page

Open My products from the sidebar. Each row shows the product name, its category, how many part numbers it has, how many documents are made from it, and when it was last updated. You can search by name, subtitle or category, filter by category or by whether a product has documents, and sort the list.

Click a product to open its detail page, where you can edit its details, see the documents made from it, and choose which document is the source of truth.

What belongs to a product vs a document

Shared facts flow between documents through the product; everything else stays with the individual document.
