Importing multi-row content (the Blocks tab)
Bring ordering tables, comparison matrices, revision histories and other multi-row data in with each product using a second worksheet.
The Products tab handles one row per product. When a product needs content that takes several rows (an ordering matrix, a comparison of variants, a revision history, a list of accessories), put those rows on a Blocks tab in the same XLSX. (This needs an XLSX; CSV files import the Products tab only.)
How the Blocks tab is structured
Each row on the Blocks tab belongs to a product. Rows with the same product (and section and title, if you use them) form a group, and each group becomes one block on that product. Four columns have special roles:
- Product column (required): links the row to a product by its Product name or Key / ID. You choose this column during import.
- Section heading column (optional): groups blocks under a named section. Leave it unset for one section per product.
- Table title column (optional): gives each block its own title.
- Block column (optional): which block the group becomes. This column is recognized by its heading, which must be Block, Block type, As, Render as or Type. Leave the cell blank for a plain table.
Every remaining column becomes a column of the block. During import, the Table columns chips show which ones will be used. Click a chip to leave that column out.
Choosing a block
Write the block's name in the Block column exactly as it reads in the editor. The first row of a group decides for the whole group:
- Ordering table: order codes and what each one is.
- Grouped table: a table whose rows are gathered under sub-headings.
- Data grid: a results grid; a column of Pass / Fail values is recognized as such.
- Comparison matrix: turns the rows sideways, so each row becomes a variant column and each column becomes a compared attribute.
- Revision history: revision, date, description, author.
- Signatures & approvals: name, role, date.
- Product cards: one card per row.
- Logo wall: a line card's manufacturers, one per row: Manufacturer, Status (authorized, stocking or referral), Note and Logo URL. Set the Section to the category to make one wall per category.
- Category cards: a product line card's image-led tiles: Category, Blurb, Series and Image URL.
- Catalog entry: a product's order codes: Order code, Option, Price, Pack and Lead. The product's own row supplies the entry's name, item number, description, image and specs.
Setting it up during import
- Name the worksheet Blocks (or Tables) and it is read automatically. A second sheet with any other name is offered on the Sheet & headings step, as ‹sheet› looks like it belongs to these products, with an Include it button. (If you left a Blocks sheet out, the Match columns step offers it again with Add ‹sheet›.)
- On the Match columns step, open the Extra rows from ‹sheet› card.
- Choose the Product column (it links by name or Key / ID). Its first option, Skip tables: ignore this sheet, leaves the sheet out and the rest of the import is unaffected.
- Optionally choose a Section heading column and a Table title column, and click any Table columns chip you want to leave out.
- Check What these rows become, each group drawn as the block it will be, then click Continue.
Where the rows land
Imported groups are stored on the product and listed on its page in My Products. When you Create a document from that product, the Tables & sections from this product toggles let you bring them in, and each group is appended as its own section. You can rearrange or restyle them afterward like any other block.
