Adding and editing tables

The full table editor: add rows and columns, paste from Excel, resize, align, merge cells, and repeat headers across pages.

DataSheets Pro has a spreadsheet-grade table editor. A few blocks use it: Table (a general grid), Ordering table (pre-set with Order code, Description and Notes columns) and, in a simpler form, Specifications (property-and-value rows).

Building a table

  • Click a cell to edit its text.
  • Add structure with + Add row and + Add column.
  • Use the per-row controls to move a row up or down, or delete it; use the per-column controls to set alignment (Left / Center / Right) or delete a column.

Pasting from a spreadsheet

  1. Copy a range in Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Click Paste from Excel, then choose Replace table or Add as new rows.
  3. Or paste directly into a cell, and the grid grows to fit what you pasted.

Cells that were merged in the spreadsheet come across merged, so a title that spans several columns or a label that spans several rows looks the same here.

Sizing columns

  • Drag a column boundary to resize it; double-click the boundary to auto-fit to the widest content.
  • Reset Width equalizes all columns.

Formatting cells

Select cells (click-drag, or click then shift-click) to reveal a small toolbar. From there you can align, merge or unmerge cells, and format text: bold, italic, underline and links (the B / I / U / 🔗 buttons). Formatting applies to a whole cell, or to just the text you select inside one cell.

Big tables and page breaks

For long tables, turn on Repeat header across pages so the header row reappears at the top of each page. You can also style borders (Horizontal, All or None) and zebra rows. If a table runs off the page, see My document runs to too many pages.
