The three-step document builder
Design & Setup, Build the Document, and Review & Export: what each step is for and how to move between them.
The editor is organized into three steps. You can jump between them freely at the top of the screen. The steps are a guide, not a locked sequence. The right-hand side always shows a live preview of the finished document.
Step 1: Design & Setup
Frame the document before you fill it in. This step controls how the document looks and the page it prints on:
- Brand kit: the logo, colors, fonts and company details applied to the document. You can also override individual colors and fonts for just this document.
- Look: the overall visual style (spacing, type, accents). See Choosing a Look.
- Page setup: size, orientation and margins.
Step 2: Build the Document
This is where you spend most of your time. Step 2 contains the document name, the document header, the list of sections and blocks, an + Add Section button, and the document footer. A counter shows how many sections and blocks the document has.
Everything you add or edit here appears in the preview immediately. Learn the mechanics in Adding, reordering, duplicating and deleting content.
Step 3: Review & Export
The final step lets you set the document status (Draft or Final), see which export formats your plan includes, and export. PDF is available on every plan; PNG and JPEG images are included on Pro and above.
The live preview
The preview pane shows real pages, paginated exactly as they'll export. A live indicator reads, for example, "Live US Letter portrait preview," and a page count updates as content grows. You can zoom, and on narrow screens the editor and preview become tabs.
Autosave and undo
There's no Save button. Changes save automatically a moment after you stop typing, and the top bar shows the status. Undo and redo work with the usual keyboard shortcuts. See Undo, autosave and keyboard shortcuts.
