A related document shows old details

Why a document made from a product can show older facts, and how to bring it up to date.

This is usually working as designed. When you edit a product's source of truth, the product record updates, but the product's other documents are not changed automatically. They wait for you to apply the update.

Bring the document up to date

  1. Open the product from My products.
  2. Find the document under Documents from this product. A document that's behind shows an Update button.
  3. Click Update, review the preview of what will change, and click Apply update.

See Keeping related documents up to date for the full flow.

If it still looks wrong

  • Applying showed no changes? The "update available" flag is based on timing, not a line-by-line comparison: sometimes a document already matches, and applying just clears the flag.
  • Editing the wrong document? Only the source of truth controls the shared facts. Editing a non-source document won't change the product. Check which document has the Source of truth badge, or set the one you want as the source.
  • A field is unique to the document. Updates refresh only shared facts and only blocks the document already has. Layout and unique content stay put.
