Why can't I access version history?

Version history needs an eligible plan. Here's what happens to your snapshots on Free and after a downgrade.

Version history is included on the Starter plan and above. On the Free plan the History panel shows an upgrade prompt instead of a version list.

After a downgrade

If you were on a paid plan and moved to Free, any snapshots already taken remain stored, but they become inaccessible until you're on an eligible plan again. Upgrading restores access to them; nothing was deleted.

If you're on an eligible plan and still don't see versions

  • The document may be new. Snapshots build up as you edit, so a brand-new document may not have any yet.
  • Snapshots are periodic. They're captured every few minutes of active editing, not on every keystroke, so very recent edits may not have their own snapshot yet.
