My spreadsheet won't import
The most common reasons an import fails or is blocked: file type, headers, the Product name column and size limits.
If an import won't start or the Add N products button stays disabled, work through these.
Check the file type and size
- DataSheets Pro reads .xlsx and .csv. The old .xls format isn't supported, so open it in Excel or Google Sheets and "Save As" an
.xlsx. - "We couldn't read that file" usually means it isn't a valid
.xlsxor.csv(or it's an.xls). - A file over 6 MB or 5,000 rows is refused. Split it into smaller files and import them one after another.
- "This file carries too much to send in one import" means many pictures are pasted into cells. Split the file, or link pictures by URL instead.
Check the layout
- The file needs a header row and at least one data row. We pre-select the row that looks like your headings; if we got it wrong, click the right row on the Sheet & headings step (or use the Change link on the next step to get back to it).
- Product name must be mapped to a column, and the Continue and Add buttons stay disabled until it is. In the Match your columns card, point the right column at Product name. See Mapping your columns.
- If the wrong worksheet was picked (a Tables or Blocks sheet read as products, say) switch tabs on the Sheet & headings step.
Check your plan and what's running
- Import is included on Pro and above. On Free or Starter the import page shows an upgrade notice instead of the wizard. See Feature limits and locked features.
- Only one import runs at a time per workspace. "An import is already running" means a colleague's (or your own earlier) import hasn't finished. Wait for it, then try again.
- Document limits don't stop an import: products use no document slots. They apply later, when you create documents from the products.
